In East Germany a great amount of agricultural wastewater isderived from dairy farms. It is highly polluted with a averageconcentrations of 3 300 mg/L COD and 460 000 Colony formingunits(CFU)/mL fecal coliforms(FC). This study was designed to showlow far constructed wetlands may eliminate pathogenic bacteria fromdairy farm wastewater under changing climatic conditions. During bothsummer and winter a constructed wetland was loaded for 10 weeks withdairy farm wastewater with a hydraulic load of 0.013 m~3/m~2. d and0.010 m~3/m~2. d, respectively.
