A small volume, resonant photoacoustic heat-pipe cell (PAHP) has been used to record the infrared absorption spectrum (9-11 mu m of the CO2laser) of malathion, an organophosphorus pesticide of low volatility, at 473 K. The performance of the same device is tested as a gas chromatographic detector using a mixture of toluene and ethylbenzene.
