Since I've been married, over 30 years now, there have been two dogs in our family, each surviving a little over 13 years. When it became obvious their lives were coming to an end, everyone looked to me to make the decision on when to'pull the plug'. It was not something I relished. In fact it was gut-wrenching, deciding what day and at what time my best four-legged friend would die. I find I don't like playing God, though lots of people think pilots regard themselves as 'sky gods'. When I was an air traffic controller with a scope full of airplanes, I never thought about how many lives I was responsible for. I didn't give the Boeing 727 more attention than the Piper Cub because more lives were at stake. A controller would go nuts thinking about that stuff.
