AbstractThe individual and the combined effects of the phosphonium salt Cyagard RF‐1 and ammonium polyphosphate on the oxygen index of polypropylene and high‐impact polystyrene have been studied. The synergistic action of the two flame retardant components is evaluated quantitatively, and a correlation between char yield and synergism is discussed.
