Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) is flight-testing the Skybus 80-K, a Lighter Than Air Unmanned Aerial System (LTA-UAS), as detailed by Aviation Week Conferences Editor-in-Chief Ed Hazelwood in our latest video. The flights have been going on for several months at Loring Unmanned Aircraft Systems Test Center in Limestone, Maine, and are expected to conclude around late April. The vehicle is an 80,000-cu.-ft. unmanned airship that is designed to demonstrate various uses in the realms of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; communications relay; law enforcement; and emergency management, among others. The vehicle offers the endurance that can often be found in fixed-wing aircraft and the ability to move slowly or nearly hover like a helicopter.
