The relation between pollen release and pollen concentrations in the air close to source was tested by means of simultaneous measurements in the natural populations ofAilanthus excelsaRoxb.,Amaranthus spinosusL.,Cyperus rotundusL.,Fimbristylis miliaceaVahl,Holoptelea integrifolia(Roxb.) Planch, andMimosa pudicaL. in India (about 17#xB0; N and 82#xB0; E). There was little positive correlation between the profiles of pollen concentrations and those of dehisced anthers in turbulent weather, and no correlation in non-turbulent weather. It is concluded that pollen release assessed by scoring the dehisced anthers and pollen concentrations in air, are to be treated as separate but integrated events in the aerobiology pathway.
