Based on the many advances that have occurred in the care and rehabilitation of the coronary patient during the past decade, this article offers a preview of the coronary rehabilitative care of tomorrow. Four aspects will be addressed that are likely to substantially influence the rehabilitation of the coronary patient in the years ahead. The first is the changing spectrum and time course of coronary care. The second is the increased scope of patients now considered eligible for rehabilitation, particularly exercise rehabilitation. The third concerns the emergence of quality of life as a health care issue. The fourth is the evolving trend toward the marked individualization of coronary rehabilitation. Each will be considered in turn.
