Trumpf Inc., Farmington, CT, through its Tooling Department, has introduced two punching tool sets, Multibend and Multishear, for its punch presses, designed to reduce the need for secondary manufacturing operations. Multishear, according to company officials, allows fabricators to produce high-quality cuts at rapid punching-machine speeds. A combination of new tooling, software and programming allow punching of sheetmetal in thicknesses to 0.120 in. without overlap or nibble marks. While typical shearing processes limit cuts to those made in 90-deg. angles, the Multishear tool reportedly can be positioned to punch at any angle while maintaining speed and high-quality edge.
