AbstractPolystyrene has been partially or completely modified to contain varying amounts of vinyl‐trans‐benzalacetophenone units in the polymer chain. Acetylation of polystyrene gave a pure poly(vinylacetophenone) which, when condensed with benzaldehyde, produced varying proportions of vinyl‐trans‐benzalacetophenone in the polymer.
