AbstractIn order to obtain information about the particle network existing in gelled suspensions of cellulose microcrystals, the elasticity modulus was determined of series of dilutions of these gels. It was found that over a tenfold concentration range, the modulus varies as the 3.4 power of the concentration. A gel point could not be determined. A tentative model for this behavior is proposed, in which strong forces cause extensive linear aggregation, and weaker forces cause crosslinking of the linear aggregates. It is pointed out that this model is not unreasonable in the light of earlier experimental work on these gels. The results of similar experiments on gels of attrited level‐off DP cellulose are also reporte
