The parent of Freeinternet.com, the fifth largest no-fee ISP, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and signed a letter of intent to sell its assets to NetZero. FreI Networks, which had 3.2 million registered users nationwide—about 45 of them active—recently laid off a quarter of its staff and cancelled a long-planned IPO.
