To document the safety with which intrauterinc devices (Dalkon Shieldsreg;) can be inserted by specially trained nonphysictans, aconsecutive series of insertions by paramedical personnel were tabulated and compared to results obtained by physicians. Analysis of the life table event rates and the incidence of complications indicate that similar results are achieved by paramedical personnel and physicians.
