In June of last year a diverse group of leaders representing industry, academia, and govern ment convened in Lansdowne, Virginia, to begin formulating a vision for the civil engineer ing profession in light of such influences as globalization, rapid technological advances, shifting demographics, and population growth. In June of this year ASCe's Steering Committee to Plan a Summit on the Future of the Civil Engineering Profession in 2025 issued the report that grew out of that summit—The Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025—which is distilled in this issue.
