摘要

During Holi, a traditional Hindu color festival, variety of powdered or water-based colors are used which may include various synthetic dyes which can have harmful side-effects. Acquired methemoglobinemia is one such rare complication. To the best of our extensive web search only two similar reports has been reported 1. Here in we describe five children who developed this complication and were managed successfully.Five children presented with cyanosis and history of mental status changes on 20th of March 2011, Holi day. The symptoms had begun within 6 h of playing with colors. All five children lived in the same locality. There was no family history in any of them. Physical examination in 10 and 12 y-old children revealed marked cyanosis, mildly increased blood pressure, tachycardia, tachypnea, altered mental status and other systemic examination was normal (Table 1).
