One comment I get from potential clients is that my couples look like they're having so much fun! Why, yes, they are having fun! Genuine excitement and off-guard smiles can't really be faked, but it does help to warm up your wedding clients during the initial consultations. Putting your clients at ease from the first meeting will set the pace for the entire relationship. I've found some key ingredients to whip up a healthy client-photographer "smoothie": The first ingredient is trust. If your clients don't trust that you have the skills to make great images, they won't be able to relax and go with the photographic flow. This trust can easily be initiated by showing lots of fun, playful, and powerful images. When they see that your ideas work, they'll trust your suggestions and ideas on the wedding day―even if they are a little offbeat. The second part of trust comes from your sincerity. When the client truly feels that you have their best interests at heart, and that you truly enjoy what you're doing, they let down their guard and their true emotions shine through. Be yourself and they, in trun, will be themselves.
