There are legal requirements, or at least a moral duty, for finding solutions to adapt the surroundings, homes and tools for elders with disabilities. However, because there is a diversity of impairments, one must first diagnose needs, expectations and skills of seniors in order to provide the best-adapted functions and usages. This study is about how to select the best care tool for a given senior by providing a diagnosis based on a method named "Design for Adapted Devices" (DAD). DAD brings the knowledge that allows developing adaptable systems based on the comprehensive diagnosis of deficits and needs of users, taking into account the diversity of user's activities through several dimensions such as skills and abilities (motor, cognitive skills, etc.) as well as the individual characteristics that modulate users' performances (social support, experience, etc.). Applied to seniors, DAD provides data to be used as guidance for the conception, development and adaptation of support devices or for their parameters adjustment or optimization.
