Several vascular mechanisms, including stroke, white-matter disease, and microangiopathy, contribute to dementia and other psychopathological states. Stroke has been reported to lead to depressive illness, but recent data disprove some of the hypotheses about this association. Traumatic brain injury, even when mild, also commonly has psychopathological consequences.
