The public delivery of rice technologies in West Africa has been inefficient, a problem accentuated by elevated extension costs. Experiences around the world are demonstrating that inefficiencies are unavoidable if a service such as extension is provided free of charge to stakeholders who might be able or willing to contribute to obtain a better service. The main objective of this research is to estimate willingness to pay (WTP) for agricultural information as an indicator of willingness to pay for extension in rice production. The underlying hypothesis is that information has a market with incentives for private participation.
