RTRI's Maibara Wind Tunnel, since its completion, has beenutilized to advance research and development of a variety of aerodynamic issues including the noise of railway trains, and a lot of significant results have been achieved. Given further speed increase of railways and raised environmental awareness, however, the improvement of aerodynamic performance of railway trains will be more and more essential in the future. RTRI will make greater efforts to advance RD on aerodynamic issues in railways using this unparalleled wind tunnel.
