Effective group work is an essential component of faculty roles and should be recognized, evaluated, and rewarded. Data regarding how an individual functions within a group are best derived from the group membership. A tool, based on group dynamics theory, is proposed as one way to determine the frequency with which an individual assumes roles that facilitate or deter achievement of group goals.
