AbstractThe effect of dispersed and undispersed South Louisiana crude oil on the growth ofSpartina alternifloraand associated meiofaunal communities was investigated in a replicated experiment conducted in a uniform Louisiana salt marsh. The oil and the oil plus dispersant were applied to open water adjacent to the marsh and forced onto the marsh, using a pump to create a “head” of water that simulated tidal conditions. Neither crude oil nor oil plus dispersant had any inhibitory or stimulatory effect on the growth ofS. alternifloraor the meiofaunal communities, including the meiobent
