Variousα-amino acids could be determined by use of chemiluminescence reaction The method was based on findings that the catalytic activity of osmium (VIII) for the chemiluminescence of I, 10-phenanthroline and hydrogen peroxide decreased in the presence of an a -amino acid Seven kinds of a -amino acids could be determined with the following detection limit: cysteine, 0.2 pmol; histidine and asparagine, 2 pmol; alanine, aspartic acid, tryptophane, and proline, 20 pmol. Nineteen kinds of a -amino acids constituting protein except glutamine were found to be detectable by the present method.
