摘要

LNG and refrigerated propane have been spilt onto the sea and ignited in a series of trials aimed at determining the thermal radiation from large cloud and pool tires on water. Flame propagation rates through the fuel-rich clouds were found to be higher for propane than for LNG. Diffusion name heights during the cloud fires were low compared with the flame width, the ratio was generally between 0.2 and 0.4, while for the pool fires the flame lengths were greater than for equivalent land-based fires because of the high evaporation rates on water. The surface emissive powers for both LNG and propane cloud fires were in the range 140-225 kW m-2. For the pool fires an average value of 200 kW m-2was obtained for LNG and between 31 and 59 kwm2for the propane fires, which were extremely sooty.
