Nowadays conferences on magnesium take place world-wide almost every month. For its part, Germany can claim to be host to the world's largest magnesium conference. This was already true of the 1998 magnesium conference and much more so for Magnesium 2000 which was organised at the same time as Materialica in Munich. In 13 symposia technical delegates discussed the potential, properties and possible applications f the rediscovered light metal. 160 contributions from 28 countries (90 of them posters) were presented in an extremely ambitious programme which at the same time confirmed the increasing interest world-wide in this material.
