Numerical taxonomic methods have been recently used in palynology and in French works dealing with plant taxonomy. Critical comments on the use of a suitable terminology for designating these methods (numerical taxonomy, phenetic numerical analysis, cladistic numerical analysis, numericlature, statistics, biometry or biometrics) are presented with many references.
