AbstractA homologous series of polyoxymethylene di‐isopropyl ethers RO(CH2O)nR fromn= 1 throughn= 6 has been prepared and characterized by gas/liquid partition chromatography, infrared spectroscopy, and other techniques. The acid hydrolyses of the series indicated no rate dependence on chain length between the endgroups, which suggests that the rate of hydrolysis is not dependent on the remaining intermediate group. The rate constants and activation energy are reported, as well as those from the literature. The conclusion is reached that hydrolytic degradation studies of formaldehyde‐crosslinked cellulose cannot yield information on the chain lengths of the cro
