A radio telemetry system for monitoring fetal electrocardiograms during labor and delivery has been designed, constructed, and evaluated. It is based upon a miniature FM radio transmitter which can be placed vaginally at the electrode site, thus eliminating the need for wire leads connecting the patient to an exogenous electronic signal processor. The system provides reliable signals and has lower electrical interference pickup than wire systems, as well as complete electrical isolation of the patient.
