A study was conducted with the objective to identify cotton cultivars by sodium dodecyl suphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) of soluble seed proteins. Two varieties of Gossypium arboreum L. (Desi cotton) and six varieties of Gossypium hirsutum L. (American cotton) species were examined. The cultivars may be identified from the banding patterns of Tris-HCL soluble seed protein profiles.
