Tier One automotive stamper Tomas-co mulciber, Inc., Columbus, OH, struggled to work with a patchwork system of 14 different business-process software programs running on four different platforms. This created EDI errors, inventory issues and short shipments, as well as cumbersome IT support and process inefficiencies. The firm also could not secure ISO 9000 certification and struggled to meet the EDI requirements of Honda, its key customer. For an upgrade, it contracted with Plexus Online, Auburn Hills, Ml, for its integrated on-demand performance-management system. Now, the software provides real-time data to all departments and has allowed the supplier to reduce inventory by more than 20 percent, decrease work-in-process by more than 40 percent, and completely eliminate short shipping. EDI problems were resolved and the firm has secured its ISO 9000 certification.
