摘要

In this paper, we develop a numerical model based on amultiphasic theory to simulate the deformation response of a hydrogelstrip immersed into an acidic solution under an external electricfield. The deformation response consists of complicatedmechano-electrochemical behaviours including mechanical effects(pressure and diffusive drag), chemical effects (concentration,chemical potential, osmotic pressure) and electric effects (electricfield intensity, electric potential). The complexly coupled nonlineargoverning equations are numerically solved using a recently developedmeshless radial basis function method. We analyse the major factorswhich influence the swelling/shrinking behaviours of the hydrogelstrip. The numerical results show good agreement with theexperimental measurements.
