As a commercial photographer, I create photographs that fit the exact specifications of our clients. That's why my tool cabinet for digital capture is so diversified. I have a Leaf digital back, Kodak DCS-760C, Foveon Studio camera, and now the Sigma SD10. I was drawn to the SD10 because of the Foveon X3 direct image sensor. It's part of a brand-new class of image sensors that captures all the color in an image at each and every point, eliminating moire patterns and making for an incredibly sharp image. Because Foveon's X3 direct image sensor has three layers of pixels- one of red pixels, one of green pixels, and one of blue pixels -at every point in the image, all the red, green, and blue light is detected and recorded, eliminating color artifacts that appear on one-layered CCD and CMOS chips.
