Since my last contribution your Society's Executive Committee, Journal officers and other members of Council have been imitating the gliding duck, all serene on the surface, but paddling Eke fury down below! As most of you will know by now, a new hydrographic publication has emerged, Hydro International, published by GITC BV, a commercial publishing company based in the Netherlands: Volume 1 Number 1 was dated February 1997. In October 1996 your Society was approached by GITC with many pages of statements and proposals, amongst which were the words "One of our main objectives is not to compete, but to cooperate for mutual benefit with such organisations as the Hydrographic Society" and at this stage, I would call upon you all to remember that our Society is a learned Society and a Charity, whilst GITC is a commercial publishing company. Amongst the proposals for cooperations was an offer, with certain conditions, for GITC to publish our Journal for us twice a year.
