This article has reviewed a number of relationships between velocity of stirring flow in the continous casting mold and the main parameters of the as-cast product quality, both surface and internal. It has also shown the profound effects casting equipment and process parameters have on stirring velocity and therefore should not be underestimated in EMS design and performance. The advantages of stirring velocity control in the meniscus region and the mold bulk with the dual-coil EMS are also clearly established.
