AbstractResole mixtures made with phenol, 4‐hydroxybenzaldehyde, and 4‐hydroxybenzoate electrochemically generate films that protect glassy carbon surfaces from poisoning. The high oxygen content of these films mimics the surface characteristics of activated carbon electrodes and permits their continuous use for detection in flowing streams. The amperometric response of different phenolic materials at these chemically modified surfaces and their liquid chromatographic application as electrodes in thin‐layer cells are reported.
