Russian federation is one of the leading markets which presents opportunities for textile exporters in India. It may be recalled that the erstwhile Soviet Union accounted for almost 12 of textile exports from India. After the disintegration of Soviet Union in 1991, exports from India virtually dried up. The early nineties to around year 2004, saw the Russian Economy, consolidating and restructuring itself with a series of mergers, acquisitions and privatization programmes undertaken by the government.
