This article summarizes basic techniques of fracture reduction and the general principles of frame construction using the Ilizarov method.Radiologic evaluation of the fracture, soft tissue injury assessment, operating room table arrangement, and extremity supports as pertinent to the fracture treatment with the Ilizarov method are considered.The sequence of fracture reduction for diaphyseal, intraarticular, and segmental fractures as well as the basic frame constructs for correcting angulation, translation, and rotation of the fracture fragments are discussed.
