Inland Steel is recycling steelmaking sludge, grit and mill scale to the BOFs via a closed-loop on-site cold briquet-ting facility. Both BOF shops have been consuming the WOBs since March 1994. Various compositions have been tried. The current briquette is a blend containing 35 percent sludges, 20-cent grit and 45 percent mill seale.
