Pechiney's very first automatic slab casting facility was developed in 1983 at the Nogueres plant (France). For over 20 years the automatic casting process has benefited from continual improvements. This progress in both efficiency and reliability led Pechiney Aluminium Engineering recently to re-design it globally under the Autopak concept. This global package is much more than a metal level control system in the moulds; it represents total management of the different working phases of a casting station, from the holding furnaces to the casting machine fig.1).
