SUMMARYLi and Sacks derived joint and conditional genotype distributions for two relatives, neither of whom is inbred, by means of three basic stochastic matrices. These results have been generalized by Jacquard to handle consanguinity in the pedigree. It is the aim of this paper to extend the approach based on the concept of identity states to arbitrary multiple relationships. Joint and conditional genotype and phenotype probability distributions are derived for any number of individuals and applications to situations with up to three individuals are considered.
