CAS President Lu Yongxiang recently sent his congratulations to biophysicist Zhuang Xiaowei, 2003 winner of a Mac Arthur Fellowship. The Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation announced the 24 new recipients of its fellowship program on Oct. 5. Each will receive 500, 000 dollars in no strings attached support over the next five years. Zhuang, 31, now an assistant professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard University, won the prestigious award for her work tracking the behavior of individual molecules. She received her B.S. in 1991 from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) at the age of 19.
