Reinvent yourself so that your company can out-think the competition and come up with new ideas, better processes and new products. Get your company on its toes, rather than standing flat-footed, so that it's ready to adapt as change is needed, rather than being one or two steps behind. Innovate in every aspect of your business, not just on the manufacturing plant floor but by also looking for better ways to handle customer inquiries, take orders and manage maintenance activities. Would your professional life be easier if external forces acting on it-high steel prices, offshore competition, and regulatory and taxation issues to name a few-disappeared? Of course it would. But will these forces go away any time soon? Not likely.
