AbstractThe mechanism whereby polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN's) are attracted to the site of inflammation in gout is not known. Studies were performed, using a modification of the Boyden chamber technic, to determine whether phagocytosis of monosodium urate crystals by PMN's would result in release of a substance chemotactic for other PMN's. The supernatant from a PMN‐crystal suspension, in both a plasma and a plasma‐free solution containing albumin, was found to be chemotactic for PM
