Japanese beverage firm Suntory is set to complete the seventh largestalcoholic drinks deal in history, having committed US$16bn to purchaseUS whisky producer Beam Inc. Despite the hefty price tag, which hascaused whispers of overpayment and will grow Suntory's debt burden,we believe that Suntory will be happy to pay a premium to expand itsexposure into new geographic markets, as well as allowing the companyto take advantage of the booming global whisky market.
