Fabry-Perot microcavity luminescent screens for optically written display are presented. The screens consist of dielectric mirrors sandwiching a luminescent layer. An incident 975-nm laser source excites the luminescent medium by upconversion for emission in red, green, or blue. The Fabry-Perot microcavity serves to narrow the emission band, leading to more saturated color. The design and fabrication are described. The display creates good images with an unprecedented color gamut.
