JR Kyushu is developing a battery train which is the first time in Japan in an AC electrification system. Running tests using a test car from April 2013 has been promoted, to collect various types of data, and make sure economy, durability and safety in one year. Among conventional lines of the company, non-electrified sections are about 45 of the total length (business km) of about 1,984km. About 60 of total diesel trains that run in these lines past 30 years after their productions and they will enter replacement term soon.
