To promote continuing education programs for nurses, nurse educators must know who their participants are and why they participate. Based on a survey of 843 nurses in continuing education courses, this article provides a profile of nurses who take part in continuing education and identifies their motives for participating. The information will help educators who provide continuing education for nurses to understand the motivations underlying participation and thus design more successful offerings.
