In briefing on November 6 2013, Mr. Tetsuro TOMITA, president of JR East has announced that they will participate in the railway vehicle and maintenance business of various ground equipment for the urban railway line "Purple line (about 23km) under construction in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, in collaboration with two companies Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni) and Toshiba Corporation (Toshiba). At the same time, a group company of JR East, Japan Transport Engineering Company (J-TREC), provides vehicles newly built 63- stainless cars. It is the first time that railway vehicles made in Japan is adopted in urban transport in Bangkok and consortium including the railway operators of Japan participates in railway maintenance business overseas either.
