The stabilization of toxic metals(Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu and Mn)in a solidwaste from a refinery was studied by the addition of either asynthetic adsorbent (zeolite A)or an organic adsorbent(dried waterhyacinth and rice hull carbon). The stabilization ability of anadsorbent was evaluated by means of sequential Extraction, whichseparated the metals into five fractions. Metals extracted in theFirst two fractions by relatively weak solvents are considered asmobile. These Metal contents provide an estimation of the amountavailable for plant uptake.
