The solubiltiy of oxygen in silicon melt has been calcualted byappying the scaled particle theory of the Percus-Yevick equaiton forthe liquid state. The calcvuatefd value is found to agreesemi-quantiatively will with experimental data for oxygen solubilityin silicon melt, when consiering a crude but useful approximation inwhich an solute oxygen atom and the surrounding silicon atoms in thenearest neighbor shell are assigned as mixed hard sphere solventatoms.
