That's what Rockford Toolcraft's CEO and president Jerry Busse calls his new monstrous dual-straightener feed line-the "granddaddy" of feed lines. Rated at a maximum stock thick ness of 1/2 in. at a coil width of 36 in., or 1/4 in. at a 60-in. coil (for 120-ksi steel), the line features a hydraulic seven-roll straightener with an overshot roll. Coil stock passes through the seven hardened and ground 8-in.-dia. straightening rolls, followed by the upper overshot roll that makes any final adjustments. Just before entering the feeder, the material passes through a second seven-roll straightener, this one with 5-in.-dia. hardened and ground rolls and featuring its own powered pinch rolls and roll-lift feature. Roll lift allows the material to become free for piloting. Supplied by Feed Lease Corp., Rochester Hills, MI, the feed line supplies material to a tandem press line at Rockford Tool craft, Rockford, IL, built from a pair of 2200-ton Verson presses brought in by Busse in January 2006 and installed inhouse by the firm's maintenance tech nicians. Each press boasts two slides- 1200 and 1000 tons, and together they create a total bed length of 27 ft. An HMS servo-based transfer line runs parts through one or both presses, depending on the application. Or, it can move completely up and out of the way to allow progressive-die stamping.
